Age: 23

“We have left humanity behind...”
Any special talents? Wanda is surprisingly light on her feet, and able to sneak up on trained soldiers alert for danger as demonstrated in the warehouse where she used stealth to plunge most of the Avengers into their own visions.
Superpowers: The Scarlet Witch is an enhanced being with a wide variety of psionic capabilities.
She can create currents that control or distort molecules, friction, kinetic energy, pressure, matter and gravity itself. The most obvious and easiest of these is simple telekinesis, the moving of objects by thought alone, the creation of energy fields that protect against attacks either around herself or in larger areas, or levitate herself in a simulation of flight. She is strong enough with this power to stop a runaway train, rip the core out of a vibrainium chassis or when pushed to a rage simply disintegrate all moving particles in the radius of her reach. Simply put she can manipulate matter on a molecular level and it remains to be seen only how far her mind can take her in applying that gift.
Wanda is also telepathic, able to sense thoughts, images and memories or engage in silent communication. Her power seems to cut through most minds like a scythe reaching deep memories or fears without great strain. She can sense the minds and feelings of those around her, and is disquieted if in the presence of someone who she does not sense at all - such as at first with Ultron. She is particularly adept at finding the fears or regrets of a target, bringing them to the fore of the mind so strongly that they become more real to the person than what is happening around them. While she cannot choose what these feelings might be, she is able to see them acting as a witness to the terrors she inflicts this way. She is capable of hypnotizing a person calling up their darkest memories or in some cases deepest hopes and leaving them to stumble around as they interact with a world entirely in their own minds. On the larger scale she can control whole groups at a time, directing people to perform specific actions according to her will. She can manipulate feelings, thoughts, actions or even physical sensations such as pain, induce sleep, create illusions or effect the senses and memory of her victims. It should be noted that her own telepathic power is strong enough on its own to breath the hold the Mind Stone has on a subject.
She can form her psionic energy into blasts of raw power, or alternatively gather in molecules and debris hurling them with force at a target making it possible for her to form an attack of any shape or unleash a radius of such power in a wave of annihilation. When her power strikes an enemy she can use it to cause further damage, tearing into the target so struck. On a more mild note she can use the reddish misty effect her psionic powers generate to create light.
All of Wanda's more active or attack based powers give off a reddish mist, such as her hypnotic ability, all of her telekinetic abilities or her ability to shield items and people from harm. While she can sense casual thoughts with no visible effect concentration turns her eyes a reddish hue.
Other Abilities: Multilingual, speaking both Skovian and English, theft, organizing/participating in political activism
Anything else we should know? Wanda's enhancements are tied to her feelings. Her strongest display of power was during her rage and grief at the death of her brother, but it is clear that although she controls herself reasonably well she fells what her targets feel along with them.
“That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry.”
Personality: At her core, Wanda Maximoff cares deeply. She cared about her family, and she cared about her people. Now she has transferred that caring to the broader world and her teammates but it was that driving feeling, the need to find the strength to protect what she cared for that drove her to undergo experimentation by Hydra or fight for Ultron. She is not an overtly aggressive woman, willing to take the backseat to a forceful personality if she is not in possession of more information than they are or if she has no cause to push herself forward. She is more likely to listen than to talk. Despite her quieter personality she feels emotions very deeply; hers and the people around her. However she will step forward if she thinks its necessary, challenging people when she believes they are wrong or don't have the knowledge they need to act wisely. She is more subtle, but that does not make her less capable of taking direct action if it is called for.
Wanda is a woman who feels a deep sense of responsibility - for her actions and her powers, for her people and ultimately for the world. She will always put what she perceives to be the greater good ahead of her personal feelings about individuals. Wanda is capable of great courage, willing to risk her life against near suicidal odds if the goal is important enough. She can confront fear for herself but it is possible for her to be crippled by guilt if her actions cause a situation to spiral out of control. The deep seeded nature of her feelings can make her grief or her rage dangerous, and loss of self control is an issue she will have to watch out for.
Ultimately Wanda is a deeply compassionate woman who seeks the better world. She may not show much but she has a kind heart, one that is ready to defend her friends and even strangers simply because they might need it. That compassion, however, forges a kind of ruthlessness that allows her to lash out without mercy against threats, to tear apart the enemy if she needs to in order to protect the innocent. To some extent she is still a very naive young woman with a limited experience of the world. She spent the first ten years of her life in relative normalcy, the next several in a war zone torn apart by tragedy and then more years as a subject to Hydra's testing, living in terror, albeit willingly. She has had little time to learn of the world outside of Sokovia or what Hydra told her, aside from the single event with Ultron but it is clear she is not a fool and can recognize when she is being deceived.
“Cause I'm with you to the end of the line.”
Family: Django Manximoff (father, deceased)
Marya Maximoff (mother, deceased)
Pietro Maximoff (twin brother, deceased)
History: Life can take a person down paths they never expect to go. Certainly that was true for Wanda Maximoff. She came home one evening and sat down to dinner like any other young girl, and while at the table bickering with her brother a mortar shell slammed into the building, killing her parents instantly while leaving her and Pietro trapped. A second shell soon joined the first but it was faulty. For two days she remained trapped there with metal death only inches away, her parents bodies beginning to decay in the rubble and only her twin for comfort. For two days she stared, wondering when she too would be swept away in flame and shrapnel, the last image of her life the name of the shell's maker - Stark - emblazoned on the side. It was forty eight hours of hell and Wanda would never forget it, not the smell or the fear, not her brother sifting around until he found one tiny memento, or the songs they took turns humming to each other in an attempt to stave off madness. She had been ten years old.
The twins had no other family to speak of, no one to turn to, so Wanda and Pietro clung to each other. Where they couldn't work, they stole. When they had no where to go they sheltered in allies and abandoned buildings. Where they couldn't vent their wrath against America and especially Stark Industries, they became politically active. When their home turned into a war zone they joined the rioters trying to push foreign forces from their home, and finally when Tony Stark became famous first as Iron Man then as an Avenger Pietro overcame her hesitation to take the offer of Dr. List, an agent of Hydra, to be human test subjects in an experiment that they hoped would give them the means to see their homes safeguarded and the people they had lost...well, avenged.
The Sceptre; an alien object first used by Loki in his attempt to conquer Earth and then held by SHIELD before was revealed to be almost wholly compromised by Hydra and dismantled, had been secured by the covert agencies' remnants and was a key factor in List's trials. Exposing volunteers to the power of the object they hoped to enhance their subjects but mostly all they managed was to take their lives. In test after test Wanda watched her countrymen and women die, often horribly. Each time she and her brother survived until finally the hoped for powers manifested themselves - Pietro gaining super speed while Wanda gained an array of abilities from telepathy to telekinesis and more.
The training that followed was almost as brutal as the tests had been. Both of them had to learn control, but this was particularly important - and difficult - for Wanda. Hydra provided her with 'subjects' to hone her mental manipulation on, and a range of objects to test her telekinetic and energy projection powers on. There were losses in training as well, horrors relived by the people she worked her power on - images she all to often shared. Wanda learned how to harness terror as a weapon but it brought her no joy, only drove her deeper into her grief - and her rage.
Eventually though training had to end. She and Pietro were present in the Hydra stronghold in the company of Baron Wolfgang von Strucker when it was raided by the Avengers. Strucker was prepared to keep them back but they were no longer willing to wait. Pietro left the building while Wanda remained behind to protect the Baron. Initially she staved off an attempt by Captain America to take Strucker into custody but ultimately she had to withdraw, slipping away to the underground sections of the facility where Iron Man had located the Sceptre, and Hydra's experiments. For her it was the perfect opportunity. She slipped up to Stark, thrust her power into his mind and saw what he feared - the death of the world caused by his own errors. She thought in that instant that if she let him go he would destroy himself, burn himself up with ambition and arrogance. Finding that sweater than simply taking his life she stopped her brother who had joined her and let Iron Man go. Later she would count that as the worst mistake of her life.
The twins returned home to wait, to hope, perhaps to go on with their lives if they could. They were there when Ultron sought them out. He persuaded them he would destroy the Avengers, and save the world - with their help. They agreed but each step down the road she had set them on would leave her increasingly uneasy. The mad robots' treatment of the arms dealer they met off the African coast to collect vibranium from, along with the revelation that Strucker had been killed set her off balance, but not enough to prevent her from going forward. When the Avengers arrived Quicksilver acted as a distraction as Wanda moved carefully from person to person locking each one in their own memories, hopes or fears - all except Stark who had chased after his creation. Although she failed to hypnotize Hawkeye with that power, his observational skills catching her and tagging her with a tazed arrow before she could manage it she later managed to set the Hulk on a rampage through the streets of a nearby city forcing Stark to break off dealing with Ultron, leave the vibranium and stop the fury of his berserked friend.
The cost in lives would be high but it didn't hit home for Wanda that she was becoming the thing she had despised, not until Seoul. There Ultron used the Infinity Stone he extracted from the Scepter, the Mind Stone, to control the thoughts of Dr. Cho intending for her to create a body for him that was a fusion of biology and vibranium. As the AI was uploading his consciousness to this new form, anchoring it with the Mind Stone, Wanda was finally able to see into the mind of the creature she had been helping, and what she saw appalled her. She could feel the world ending in his mind, destruction and death on a scale that would make Stark's actions tame by comparison. Understanding finally what she had set in motion she didn't hesitate. Wanda turned against Ultron, breaking the hold of the Mind Stone on Dr. Cho, and fleeing with her brother into the city.
They were still in the city when a battle between the Avengers and Ultron erupted in it, putting the lives of the regular people at risk. The lives of innocent people had always been the thing Wanda wanted to protect, the thing she resented Stark for taking. She could not stand aside while people died around her and neither could her brother. Despite the fact that they knew the Avengers were not likely to trust them they joined the battle, standing against their one-time ally with their one time enemies to save people who could not stand for themselves. She would have one final, serious disagreement with Steve Rogers when he sent the body Ultron had been building for himself to Tony Stark for study. To her that was risky; she still saw little difference between the robot and his creator. The twins accompanied the Avengers to Stark's Tower where they tried to stop him from bringing the android to life, fighting against the very people they had just aided only to be thwarted by the arrival of Thor and the birth of Vision. Wanda might have destroyed it at once if, during the course of the argument, the newly born lifeform had not picked up Thor's hammer, convincing all the Avengers it was safe for the time being while at the same time the group was informed that Ultron had returned to Sokovia to finish what he had begun - worldwide extinction. To prevent this, Wanda and Pietro accompanied the Avengers.
In the streets of Sokovia they set themselves to evacuating the populace, Wanda with her mind control and telekinetic defenses, Pietro with his speed. As the city below them began to lift, the vibranium wrenching the very earth into the sky, Wanda perceived in full gritty reality what she believed to be events she had unleashed she felt herself breaking down. There seemed to be no way to stop Ultron, no way to undo her mistake, no way to make of herself a monster far less terrifying than what she had perceived in Stark. The world was less than hours from ending - and she would be the cause. Ultron might be the vehicle but she had been the one to start the engine when she played on Tony Stark's fears. On the verge of a total collapse Hawkeye called her and the insanity of the situation out, challenging her to either collapse into her guilt, her fear, hide behind her brother or stand and step out as an Avenger.
His words reached down into the core of Wanda Maximoff, to the heart of the woman who had lived with her fears and those of others for so long they were part of her very soul, and allowed her to reach past it becoming someone new.
"If you walk out that door, you are an Avenger."
At first she hesitated but as she considered his words the shape of her life reforged itself, it hardened and she stepped out to fight with everything she had to throw at the enemy. In that moment she left the frightened angry girl of her childhood behind and became the Scarlet Witch.
At first she returned to the task of evacuation but as the tide of the battle turned to focusing on the core of Ultron's mad scheme to create an extinction level event out of the flying city, she rendezvoused with the other Avengers at the core of the system that was keeping Novi Grad in the air. There they fought to protect the core of his creation preventing Ultron from dropping the now floating island. Wanda unleashed her power in a way she never had before tearing apart machine after machine in waves of red misted power. The insane robot had told her once she would tear the Avengers apart from the inside - his words turned out to be both mistaken and prophetic.
When the dust settled the Avengers scattered again to prevent the remaining robots from fleeing, giving Ultron any more hosts, and to make for their own evacuation points, Wanda chose to stay and protect the core, sending her brother to make sure the whole of Novi Grad was clear of people before she would leave the ground where she had chosen to make her stand. She was there when she felt the suppression fire rip through her brother's body as Pietro elected to put himself between Hawkeye, a child, and a rain of death being laid down by Ultron as he piloted a combat jet. She felt the pain of his wounds, the loss of his strength and the last gasp of air as life left him. The loss of her other half took Wanda Maximoff to her knees, unleashing her power in a wave of telekinetic force that annihilated everything coming at her in a single blast.
Beleiving the core was safe, the area clear she made her way to the last of Ultron's bodies that was still partially functioning. It spoke to her almost as if it cared what happened to her, reminding her that if she didn't leave she would die with the destruction of Novi Grad. Tears were on her cheeks but in a voice colder than ice she replied that she had already died that day - and she decided to show him how it felt, wrapping her power around its core and ripping its heart out of the vibranium chassis. She would have been happy to die then as the floating island tore itself apart in the wave of destruction unleashed by Iron Man and Thor, turning it to crumbling chunks of rock instead of a massive force that would end all life, but she was saved by the Vision - the android she had not believed should be allowed to live. He left her in safety, finding the last of Ultron's bodies and putting an end to the threat.
Ultron was gone, Strucker was gone, and her brother had died but Wanda was not the same girl who had burned with hatred at Tony Stark, who had believed in a world of black and white. She had become someone new, a part of a much more complicated world where actions like her own could lead to devastation and all anyone could do was fight for what they believed was right. She did not choose to stay in Sokovia. Like Barton had told her when she came out of the building she'd sheltered in - she was an Avenger.
“Dance-off, bro. Me and you.”
Custom Title Queen of Chaos
RP Sample. It was strange being in America, in the new Avengers facility. After harboring her hate for so long waking up every day under the warm coverlet in her room only to throw it off, dress and head out to the training yard of the building with the A proclaiming what it represented - what she now was - to the world at all times, was almost like living in a dream turned upside down. The truth was it had not all sunk in yet. Although her brother had been laid to rest in Sokovia, near the graves of their parents, Agent Barton had assisted her when she asked that a memorial plaque be placed on the grounds. She did not need a physical location to grieve; her pain was with her always but it felt right to have something nearby that was for Pietro - a way of keeping him with her even though they were forever apart. Beneath his name they had emblazoned the cognomen Quicksilver. The young sorceress thought he would have liked it, and although he was always in her thoughts sometimes she spent time there, telling stories about her new life as if he were able to listen, leaving little trinkets or remarking on a girl he might have fancied - even if he could not, she occasionally noted dryly, have brought them dresses from Paris.
The training here was different than what she had undergone during her time with the Baron. She knew now what Hydra had done - and still she had a hard time thinking of Strucker as an evil man. Consciously she understood, but he had been kind to her when she suffered the pain brought on by List's experiments and those memories were not easy to cast off. Here, though, they did not offer her people to practice on. It seemed her command of her powers was satisfactory, although she worked at both the aim and the shape of her telekinetic skills daily the way Romanoff habitually practiced her marksmanship. Physical combat was part of what was being required of her, getting her body ready to handle a threat so that she was not easily disabled if for some reason her power had failed her. That part was not easy but she worked at it as best she could.
Much of the rest was protocols, strategies and tactics. The other members of the new Avengers - aside from the Vision - had all been soldiers of some kind. Only Wanda was ignorant of the knowledge they took for granted and it was this lack of skill she had to make up for. There was no time to rest on her laurels. Whatever was coming - and something was - it would not wait on her to catch up.
But she did not spend all her time working. On her days off she found she was close enough to New York City itself to spend time there. America had always been a place of distant luxury to her, of decadence and privilege. Wanda saw a great deal of that in these people, but now she saw other things too; kindness, compassion, fear at what was happening to the world - the way things were changing. For the first time she was experiencing the perspective of the people she had despised, and it had made her realize how important it was to know a people before she judged them. It was one of those days she had ventured into the city when she had settled on having her hair dyed a deep crimson. So far every member of their team - the new little family she was building for herself - had a kind of other name they used; Captain America, War Machine, Falcon, Black Widow....The intimidating man with only one eye, the one who was actually in charge, Colonel Fury, had dubbed her the 'little witch' which had quickly become the Scarlet Witch given her favoring so much red in her wardrobe. She had considered being offended by the implication, but decided to embrace it instead. Her hair would blaze out, matching her clothes and proclaiming to everyone that she was the Scarlet Witch, an Avenger, an if she was there they would be safe.
