Date: September 17th, 2015 (if I need to change this, let me know)
Location: 9th Ave coffee shop, between Hell's Kitchen and the Theatre District, NYC
Summary: After sitting in on an astrophysics lecture, Matt seeks out further information from a leading expert in the subject.
--------------------------------
Matt hadn't told any of his friends where he was going. It wasn't like they had a large enough clientele yet that he had to be at the office all day, after all. And besides, Foggy or Karen might have asked why he'd even want to sit in on that sort of thing in the first place.
They might have questioned if his faith was shaken if he'd answered.
The truth was, Matt liked to think his faith was strong enough that The Incident hadn't affected him on that deep of a level. That the existence of alien beings and the appearance of the Norse god of thunder in his backyard hadn't affected his belief in God. That he had no trouble allowing the quite-obviously-otherworldly Avenger to live alongside the firm teachings of Father Lantom.
But just because he liked to think that didn't make it true. Ever since The Incident, he'd had trouble. Not the faith-shattering kind, either. He still went to church. Still spoke with Father Lantom. Still believed quite firmly in what he learned at church. But The Incident had taken place while he had still been in law school, and back then he couldn't exactly have spoken with the university counselor's office, and not just because they were flooded with students who had friends or family in the city who had been injured or otherwise affected by the damage.
Things had happened since then to increase his unease in the matter. He'd heard what had happened in London, heard of the strange effects and the invasion there. He'd heard about what had appeared in the sky on that day and had a brief moment of relief that he had not been able to see it.
He'd sought out information on his laptop in his apartment, found books at the library, but there wasn't a lot that he'd found that had helped him reconcile everything. So when he'd found out about an astrophysics lecture at the City University, he'd decided not to go into the office and headed over to the school instead. He'd stood in the back, out of the way, cane held close to his body to decrease his profile.
It didn't exactly do much to answer his questions, though it had been enlightening nonetheless, and Matt needed further explanation of some concepts, so when the opportunity arose to speak to an expert, he took it. In the chaos of the attendees getting up to leave, he wouldn't be able to get close.
So he followed her, keeping his distance, until they arrived at a coffee shop several blocks up the street. It wasn't one he was familiar with, but he supposed it would work for his purposes.
