Personality:
Tony Stark is a difficult man to understand. In his personal life he is eccentric and egotistic, traits that often cause him to clash with others, even those who would otherwise be on his side. Granted, between being Iron Man and with Pepper Potts in a rather serious relationship until recently has managed to mellow him out; and he is no longer nearly as bad as he was only a few years ago. The biggest change in his life is probably his near death experience in Afghanistan though, which he claims opened his eyes to where his life was going.
There is also an unmistakable wit and charm to the man as well, he rarely misses an opportunity to make a sarcastic comment or quip on any given situation; usually bordering on either egotism or insulting of some kind. However he seems to have lost a lot of his edge lately, with the stress between him and Pepper's relationship seeming to spill over into his other dealings. Tony still has his witty edge and banter, but it's definitely less prominent as it once was.
Additionally Tony has never been the most stable person; but he's definitely more sensitive to things at the current moment. He probably shouldn't be on active duty with the Avengers in his current state, but that doesn't stop him from trying anyway. There was a time Tony wasn't accountable for his own actions, though ever since his time in Afghanistan this had changed, now taking it upon himself to personally do everything within his power to make sure people are out of harms way, and when he makes a mistake or feels he has to take accountability for his actions; there is no one who can stand in his way from making sure he does what he can to right his wrongs.
“Cause I'm with you to the end of the line.”
Family: Tony Stark has no immediate family, both of his parents died in a "Car accident."
History:
Early life and Stark Industries.
Tony Stark was born to Howard Stark; the founder and CEO of Stark Industries, and his wife Maria Stark. Tony however quickly stole the show, building his first circuit board at the age of four, and only two years later having build his first motorcycle engine. By the time Tony was seventeen he graduated summa cum laude from MIT. His Parents car accident (a covered up assassination by Hydra as he would later find out) would leave Stark Industries in the hands of Howard's life long friend, Obadiah Stain, until at age 21 Tony would take the seat as CEO of the company and once more bring it under the "Family name."
In 1999 Tony would attend a New Years Eve party; having already hired Happy Hogun as his personal body guard by this time, and would meet several people; such as Maya Henson, Ho Yinsen, and Aldrich Killian, and make arrogant mistakes relating to them that he would only later in his life come to realize and regret.
In 2008 Tony would skip an awards ceremony in favor of his more favorite personal activities, partying and gambling; having a trip to Afghanistan waiting him in the morning; not that arriving late would actually come to bother the man. It did however bother his friend James Rhodes, and his personal assistant Virginia Pepper Potts, who would both make it clear in the morning (after his exploits with a reporter from his previous night partying) that they weren't exactly pleased with him. Not that Tony paid them much attention. Once in Afghanistan; Tony would be presenting his newest weapons technology in order to sell it to the military, The Jericho Cluster missile. After making the presentation he would be escorted back in a convoy, only to be ambushed and kidnapped by the Ten Rings, who wanted their own prototype of the Jericho weapon. Tony was caught in the blast of one of his own missiles, and left with shrapnel in his chest cavity, working its way towards his heart. Yinsen; someone he would have met a few years prior to this but couldn't actually remember, was the only person who really saved his life, using an electromagnet to slow the shrapnel down. It was Tony himself though who would power it with a Palladium powered Arc Reactor and stop the shrapnel more long term.
The Ten Rings though grew impatient with Tony Stark's apparent lack of progress as he refused to build them the missile they wanted. Running out of time and options Tony would then make his plan to escape the cave. Using nothing but spare parts from the weapons and materials the Ten Rings would loan him (believing he was working on their missile) Tony would create a powerful suit of armor that he would power by the arc reactor now in his chest. Yinsen would die in the escape attempt trying to buy time for Tony's suit to be fully charged. Tony however was fine, though a changed man when he emerged from the cave.
I am Iron Man.
Upon his return to Malibu California from Afghanistan, Tony would call for a press conference as soon as he returned and announce that he was shutting down his weapons manufacturing sections of Stark Industries in favor of another breakthrough (the arc Reactor Technology). However, this announcement caused such an uproar that it became difficult for him to find anyone willing to help him with his project, even childhood friend Rhodey. The mistrust caused him to build the suit behind the scenes, in a rather embarrassing but promising test flight.
It wasn't until his next public appearance that he would be confronted by Christine Evanheart once again that despite his bold move, weapons were still being sent from his company into the warzone of Gomera, and it would be Obadiah who would inform him that the company was dealing weapons under the table. Tony would return home once more that night, and after finishing his new set of armor, he personally visited Gomera to stop the terrorists who had gotten a hold of Stark Industries weapons, killing them, rescuing the civilians they were holding captive, and destroying the weapons shipment once again. It was here that Tony realized what purpose the suit had, and his new determination for it was set. Upon leaving Afghanistan once again though, he would be confronted by US fighter jets, and attempt to lose them, however accidentally damaged one in the process, turning around to save it. Tony would in the heat of the moment admit to Rhodey over the phone in his H.U.D that the suit belonged to him, and that he was in it. Rhodey would call the second fighter jet off of him, and announce that it was nothing more than a training accident the next day.
Tony then returned and with determination to make amends for his mistakes, sent Pepper to track down the shipping manifest for the weapons shipment and to cancel it for good, and allow him to use the suit to destroy the final shipments. In her search though, Pepper would discover that it was no other than Obadiah Stain who hired the Ten Rings to assassinate Tony, in an attempt to get control of the company once more. More than this, she realized that Obadiah recovered Tony's first suit, and had built his own based on it's designs, but had still not managed to crack the miniature Arc Reactor Technology.
Obadiah realized what Pepper had found out, and now desperate to get his suit finished, Obadiah would paralyze Tony and steal the Arc reactor that was keeping him alive. However Tony would force himself to recover and install the prototype arc reactor (which wasn't designed to maintain his newer designed suits) and confront Obadiah. Neither man of course is the most reasonable, and Tony was determined to make sure the technology didn't fall into the wrong hands. This started a battle, which began at one of Obadiah's warehouses, spilled over into a highway, and ended on the rooftop of the Stark Industries power plant, where Tony defeated and killed Obadiah by having Pepper overload the Arc Reactor that powered the building.
The following morning there would be another press conference to address the situation surrounding the battle between the since then dubbed "Iron Man" and "Iron Monger" Where Tony would speak, being expected to deny any involvement. Tony though, in a spur of the moment decision, changed his mind, and announced instead that he was indeed the Iron Man...
That night Tony would return to the mansion in Malibu and be confronted by an Eye-patched man by the name of Nick Fury from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division; now going by S.H.I.E.L.D, who had taken a great interest in Tony's escape and armor...
The Stark Expo.
Tony and Pepper (more appropriately Pepper) would be busy from then on preparing for the Stark Expo which would be presented only six months after the revelation that he was Iron Man. when the Expo eventually rolled around once more, Tony would make his appearance at the midnight opening in New York as Iron Man, and set the year in motion. Outwardly things look good for Tony, but behind the scenes there was trouble. The first was that the palladium core in his arc reactor was poisoning him, the more he used the suit the shorter his life was. Secondly, Senator Stern was insistent that Tony Stark turn over the Iron Man armor and the Arc Reactor Technology to the US military, Something Tony was quite persistent didn't happen. Stern attempted to make a point, that the technology would soon be available to other competing governments, having Rhodes and Justin Hammer; one of Stark's competitors, attempt to persuade Tony to turn the suit over. Tony turned the argument around, revealing that Hammer Industries in particular was years away from replicating the technology.
After his apparent victory in the court case of Iron Man, Tony returns to Malibu with the hopes that he and his AI assistant J.A.R.V.I.S can unlock a way to keep his arc reactor from killing him, however all tests he attempted continued to fail. Believing his chances of survival were slim at best, he would turn over the seat of CEO to Pepper Potts. After turning over to Pepper, Tony; believing his death to be unavoidable, turns to a more thrill seeking and even more reckless lifestyle than he had lived in the past. Most noticeably, Tony entered himself into the Monaco grand Prix last minute, dropping the other racer that was in the Stark Industries car out, much to Pepper and Natalie Rushman's (An undercover Natasha Romanov) surprise and dismay. He never finished the race however, as an Ivan Vanko would enter the track in an assassination attempt against Tony Stark. The surprising part wasn't the actual assassination attempt, but the weapons the man used. Two high powered Energy whips that used arc reactor technology to power them.
Tony had only recently finished designs on the Mark V Iron Man Armor, a suit that was relatively similar to the other designs, but more lightweight and less heavily armored in order for it to fold down into something that resembled a suitcase. After a short cat and mouse chase on the race track, Tony buying time for Pepper and Happy to catch up and deliver the suit, Tony was able to armor up, and quickly dispatch the new villain.
After the short battle Tony would pay Ivan a visit in prison to confront him and discover where he got his version of the Arc Reactor Technology. Ivan explained that his own father, Anton, worked with Howard Stark on the original Arc reactor, but was deported only to die in poverty, and that Ivan was there for revenge. No sooner than Tony began returning home to Malibu was Ivan broken out of prison by the help of Justin Hammer, who wanted to use Ivan's knowledge in order to create his own Armors based on the Arc reactor technology.
Back in Malibu; when he would rather have been in Italy with Pepper, Tony throws what he believes will be his last birthday; which ends in disaster when he gets himself drunk dons the Iron Man Armor, and begins in reckless activities that night. Pepper having run out of options resorts to asking Rhodey to help get Tony under control, and he steals the Mark II armor from Tony's basement in order to confront him. The two fight and tear the mansion apart, only for Rhodey to flee with the armor with the intent to turn it over to the military.
Nick Fury returned to Tony's house the next morning, revealing that Natalie was in face an undercover agent, named Natasha Romanov; and that they are aware of Tony's Palladium poisoning. Fury informs Tony that his father Howard was a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D and was onto a discovery that might help cure Tony, then provides some materials to him to get him started, but leaves him under Agent Coulson's supervision. Tony of course, ignores the limitations, and visits Pepper in an attempt to apologize to her but she refused it at the time. Tony took the opportunity to take a diagram of a previous Stark Expo that his father sponsored, and used the information to locate the atomic structure of a new element that could be used to save Tony's life. Tony and J.A.R.V.I.S then worked on synthesizing the new element and designing a new armor that the new core would be able to power; the Mark VI.
While still working, Ivan contacts Tony and informs him that he is indeed still alive, even after a supposed bombing that would have killed him; while having the conversation though, Tony was able to trace the call to New York and the Expo, allowing Tony to equip himself in his new armor prematurely and flew to the Stark Expo in an attempt to stop Ivan's plan. Rhodey was there already, helping Justin Hammer present his own prototypes of the Hammer Drones that he planned on letting the Military have. Ivan however embedded them with a program that allowed him to control them and Rhodey's armor. The drones and Rhodey's armor were both turned on Iron Man, forcing Tony to engage them and attempt to draw them away from civilians. Pepper took the opportunity to have Hammer arrested for his involvement, and Happy and Natasha went to Hammer's facility in Queens to track Ivan down, only to discover he had left already, but managed to use the control room to release Rhodes from Ivan's control.
Tony in the Iron Man suit, and Rhodey in his War Machine suit then worked together to stand and destroy the remaining Hammer Drones, only to be confronted finally by Ivan Vanko one more time in a new more powerful suit of armor. Tony and Rhodey however managed to defeat him by firing the two repulsers at each other, creating a reaction they had accidentally discovered in their previous fight in Tony's mansion. However it quickly became apparent that all of Ivan's armors were designed to self destruct, forcing Tony to flee and rescue Pepper, who was still surrounded by the destroyed and dismantled armors. He reached her in time, and managed to get her out of harms way in time to see the Expo practically torn to shreds by the subsequent explosions.
In the quake of all of this, Nick Fury would arrive to debrief Tony of everything that had happened, informing Tony that he wanted him in a consulting position for the Avengers initiative.
Avengers .... assemble.
Tony would then work for a short time as the consultant for the Avengers initiative, looking for other gifted people that could join the ranks; including a recent incident that took place in Harlem, meeting with General Thunderbolt Ross with the hopes of getting the Abomination onto the team. This only ended with Ross upset with Stark though, and Tony purchasing and demolishing the bar they had met in.
Making no progress with the Avengers, Tony would instead focus on other projects, including new suits, and building Stark Tower which would be the first in a line of self sustaining buildings, using an arc reactor to run the entire building, being cut completely off the grid. No sooner than he had it established though was he met with Phil Coulson who was informing him of a new threat that they needed Tony to consult on, and that the Avengers Initiative was again being looked into despite the previous failings. Tony agreed to look into it despite the plans he had for the night with Pepper, and left to aid them on the Hellicarrier, only to be informed of a situation that was taking place in Germany where he would meet up for the first time with Captain America as Steve Rogers, as the two of them quickly dispatched of the invading villain, Loki. They captured him and brought him aboard the Quin-Jet, only to be stopped by Thor who attempted to Take Loki away. Tony; still needing Loki for S.H.I.E.L.D, went after Thor and fought the Asgardian, only for the fight to be cut short by Steve Rogers, where the three would come to an agreement and bring Loki back to the Hellicarrier again.
By this time Bruce Banner had been collected by Natasha Romanov, and the team met aboard the Hellicarrier, Tony taking time to try and hack into S.H.I.E.L.D's database, believing that they were up to something. Steve confirmed this with his own investigation, however the two of them still couldn't get along as Tony continued to act too childish for Steve's liking. The group would all be drawn into this argument, but it was cut short as Loki and his brainwashed men attacked the Hellicarrier to free him. Tony and Steve forgot about their quarrel and went to go repair one of the Hellicarrier's repulser engines, heavily damaging his armor in the process. When he returns to the inside of the Hellicarrier to find Loki had escaped and murdered Phil Coulson, he began to take the situation personally, realizing that Loki was about to make a move at Stark Tower. Tony left ahead of the rest of the group, leaving Steve to gather the rest of the team, while Tony confronted Loki personally.
Tony made it clear that he was taking Phil's death personally (though only learning the man's name the previous night) and threatened Loki, verbally jabbing at him to buy time for the next suit to be ready to be used in what was clearly about to become another battle. Before he could stop Loki though, Loki opened a portal above Stark Tower, which allowed the alien invasion of Chitauri to being their invasion. Deciding to leave Loki in favor of fending off the invasion until the others arrived. The ensuing battle appears to be out of hand when a nuclear missile is sent to New York. Tony intercepted it, and sent it up into the portal, ending the coming forces, finishing the battle almost as quickly as it had begun, leaving Loki left alone and at the mercy if the team of Avengers, and to be returned to Asgard by Thor, and renaming the Tower for the Avengers.
We create our own demons...
Though Tony would never admit it, the wake of the battle of New York would leave him mentally scarred for a while, giving him P.T.S.D at the thought of another invasion. Having given Rhodey a new suit so he could continue to fight while Tony was Busy being Iron Man in other areas. Tony could only cope with the invasion thanks to Pepper and more often his constant obsession with making new suits for every possible situation imaginable, a total of 37 different armors and more on the way. This though put a strain on he and Pepper's relationship, though Tony eventually admitted that he had been suffering ever since the battle.
Meanwhile as this was all transpiring, a terrorist by the name of the Mandarin set off a series of bombings. When Happy Hogun was caught in the most recent Blast, Tony made a public death threat against the Mandarin, warning him that he would come for him, and that he would kill him personally. The threats were the least of Tony's problems as Pepper was concerned about the situation, and later on that night he would begin to have a nightmare about the invasion of New York, sending his body into distress, only for his newest armor to come to his aid, and threatening Pepper.
The next morning Maya Henson would appear at Tony's house, warning him that it had been a mistake to make a public threat to the Mandarin like he had, something she and Pepper agreed on, as Pepper was ready to leave the mansion until the threat had passed. Tony should have known that Maya's appearance was just the beginning of a past he thought he was leaving behind. While the three of them were still arguing all of this, the mansion was attacked by helicopters, Tony sending his armor to get Pepper and Maya out of harms way while he drew fire from the Helicopters. Once Pepper was safe, Tony summoned the armor back to him once more. Of course, the armor was purely experimental and meant only to test the ability to summon the armor on demand, so it wasn't fully armored, giving the Helicopters an advantage. Tony took out two of them, before the mansion was sunk under water with him inside still, leading the world to believe the Mandarin had succeeded in murdering Tony Stark.
J.A.R.V.I.S had created a flight path earlier while they were working on locating one of the Mandarin's bombing sites, and once Tony went unconscious J.A.R.VI.S took him to the location, namely being Tennessee. However, J.A.R.V.I.S and the suit would then run low on power, leaving Tony to fend for himself until he could manage to charge it again. Tony's first priority was to inform Pepper that he was fine though, and he managed to call her from a payphone, but informed her that he couldn't yet come home until he was finished with the Mandarin. Needing to charge the suit still though, Tony broke into a workshop which belonged to a 10 year old boy named Harley, who Tony would enlist for help to find the truth behind the bombings. Tony investigated the site of one of the bombings, noticing a strange anomaly about the explosions seeming to come from the person carrying the bomb. While questioning the mother of the bomb victim, Tony ran into trouble from pair of the Extremis forcing him to fight them without the suit. He managed to blow the first one up by overloading a microwave, and then slip away from the second with the boy's help and a spare repulser he had hidden away.
After escaping he had Harley's help in locating the Mandarin's base in Miami. Without the suit being fully charged yet, Tony was forced to confront the Mandarin and his men with improvised gadgets that he made literally overnight. Tony then stormed the Mandarin's home, only to discover that he in fact was not a terrorist but rather a British actor paid by none other than Killian to act as a threat to America while he carried out his own nefarious deeds unnoticed. Tony couldn't do anything with this information though, before he was knocked unconscious and taken into captivity by Killian, who then went on to explain his plan to Tony. In the process though, he had murdered Maya (who was working with him) and revealed that he had captured Pepper as well, and was at the moment infecting her with the Extremis virus.
By this time the suit was charged, and Tony was able to summon it to him, allowing him to make his escape from Killian's facility while Rhodes had also arrived here; however he revealed that Killain had stolen the now dubbed "Iron Patriot" Armor in an attempt to murder the president with it. Taking control of his armor remotely Tony was able to defeat and Kill the Extremis assassin, and was able to rescue the other passengers on the plane, however Killian himself managed to escape with a Captive President Ellis.
Tony and Rhodes then traced Killian to an abandoned oil rig, then snuck aboard in hopes of rescuing Pepper and the President before he could be executed on live television. Unable to take the Extremis on their own though, Tony would summon the remaining Iron Man Armors, giving him a huge edge against Killian and his men. Tony quickly located Pepper while the armors dispatched of the remaining Extremis. However Killian attacked Tony, forcing a fight outside. Tony was on the back foot, too occupied trying to save Pepper, when she would be dropped from the platform to what Tony believed to be her death. Enraged by this, Tony turned all his attention on Killian, a fight raging over the platform until finally he nearly killed him by self destructing a suit on top of him. Killian seemed to recover from it though (only barely) until Pepper returned from her almost near death experience and dealt the final blow, killing him once and for all.
In the aftermath of everything Tony would have the shrapnel removed from his chest, no longer needing an arc reactor in his chest.
The Age of Ultron.
The collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D meant that the Avengers no longer had government backing, however Tony Stark with his funding proved to be more than enough to reassemble the team to respond to many threats, though it wasn't Tony who claimed leadership of the team, but rather Cap. On one such mission was a Hydra base by Von Strucker. It was a simple raid, and one they had performed several times before already. The team was quickly able to dispatch the Hydra forces on the ground, and while they did that, Tony pushed his way into the Hydra base and lowered the shield allowing the others entrance as well. While the others worked on cleaning up and capturing Strucker, Tony found his way into a storeroom where Hydra was working on their own weapons using Loki's scepter, and what appeared to be an advanced AI that might have rivaled even his own J.A.R.V.I.S program. Before he could get what he had come for though, a vision of a mysterious battle was placed in his head by Wanda Maximoff. Once the vision was out of his head (but still fresh) Tony took the scepter and began returning back to the now re-named Avengers Tower.
Tony was given three days by Thor to study the Scepter, for both what he had seen in the vision and information about what secrets it held. While studying it he realized it could possibly hold the key to the artificial intelligence Hydra was close to cracking, and more importantly be used with his Iron legion program in hopes of creating a peace keeping program. Tony was able to convince his new friend Bruce Banner to work on the project with him, and while they were celebrating the newest victory against Hydra Tony left the syncing up to J.A.R.V.I.S for the night.
When the program eventually worked, Ultron took control of the Iron Legion and seemingly destroyed J.A.R.V.I.S all at once, attacking the Avengers as their party was winding down, and finally stealing Loki's scepter and fleeing away from the Avengers in a fight he was otherwise losing. Keeping tabs on Ultron after this, they discovered he was looking for Vibranium from an illegal dealer named Ulysses Klaue. The Avengers quickly rounded themselves up, and moved to intercept Ultron, who had created a new body for himself now; as well as recruited the two Maximoff twins. The Avengers fought for a short time, and Tony focused on engaging Ultron. While Tony was gone, Wanda and her brother Pietro worked together to tear the others down, which involved even unleashing the Hulk on them. This forced Tony to summon Veronica... also known as the Hulkbuster, a suit Tony and Bruce had both designed in case the Hulk ever got out of hand. Tony would then engage the Hulk with the Hulkbuster and after a long and rather destructive fight between the two, Iron Man finally landed a final hit on Hulk, knocking him out and reverting him back to Bruce Banner.
Needing a place to lay low after this, it would be Barton who would lead them to a safehouse, his family home. With tensions strung high, he and Steve would again exchange harsh words with each other; Steve upset with Tony about his involvement in Ulton's creation, and it would be then that Tony would be confronted with Nick Fury once more, trying to motivate Tony onto the right path. Tony would then reveal the vision he had been shown to Nick Fury. It took Fury to motivate the whole team to fight Ultron again, and it was Bruce who discovered that Ultron was "evolving" himself, and that the next logical step would be for him to try to create himself a new body with Helen Cho's technology.
Steve, Clint and Natasha went to North Korea to stop Ultron and help Cho, while Tony and Banner went to locate an enemy Ultron had made, who they believed could help them. Tony would come to find that the enemy was none other than J.A.R.V.I.S ... and when Clint delivered the body to the Avengers Tower, suggested that it might be a smart idea to use J.A.R.V.I.S in the new synthetic body. Around this time the other Avengers bar Natasha (who had been captured) were arriving at the tower and all had very differing opinions about the situation they had gotten themselves into. However in the end Thor returned from his own side quest, and by striking lightning into the body gave it life, along with the program Tony had uploaded, allowed for J.A.R.V.I.S to integrate into the new body. However it was no longer J.A.R.V.I.S but now knowing by Vision...
The creation of Vision was unsettling, everyone believed it was the next Ultron. However he was soon able to gain their trust when Thor revealed that he had a vision with this new creation as the centerpiece, and that it would be at the core of fixing the problem. Tony for one was speechless when he realized his synthetic creation could lift Mjolnir and hand it back to Thor. From there, the newly formed team including the Maximoff twins who had come to realize that Ultron was aiming to destroy the world; would move from Avengers Tower to Sokovia in a final effort to stop Ultron. Their first goal was to rescue Natasha, and to evacuate the civilians.
This was easier said then done though, as Ultron would reveal that his final game plan was to literally rip the city out of the ground, and turn it into a meteor, attempting to exterminate all life on Earth. Tony would be the first one to go after Ultron, hoping to distract him while the others helped protect the floating city's civilians. The fighting only continued to intensify and it was Tony who was left to attempt and find a way to stop the city from falling back onto the planet below. Nick Fury intervened finally by bringing one of the remaining Hellicarriers to evacuate the civilians. It was then up to the entire team of Avengers to protect the key, which was keeping the city in the air. If Ultron could reverse the polarities the whole city would come crashing down. Together with Thor and Vision, Iron Man would be able to send Ultron running, the team focusing then on ensuring that none of the Ultron bots managed to escape the city. Finally, Tony succeeded in a plan to destroy the city now that everyone was off of it, pulverizing it before it hit the ground...
The death toll was higher than they would have liked, and it came at a cost to the entire team. When they returned to New York, they had to move the Avengers Headquarters from Avengers tower to another one of Stark's facilities.

Why did he promise to take it easy as Iron Man?
Especially to Pepper of all people, that was a mistake. Tony Stark knew that was something he couldn't do; he knew that whenever a threat came around he would have to don the famous suit (or one of it's many variations anyway) and be right there in the front of the danger. Despite the physical and emotional toll it had taken on him in the past, he still had to be in it. It was an addiction worse than his alcohol abuse, and one he couldn't shake. And Yet. He had promised to the Avengers that he would be taking a break, winding down and "Tapping out." And he had made the same promise to Pepper. She had had serious trouble after his roll in creating Ultron, always worrying about Tony and his safety. Neither of them were admitting it, but it was putting a serious strain on their relationship.
As per usual with Tony, the Promise wasn't actually the problem. It was delivering on that promise. Because as he had stated... he is Iron Man. And even though he had made that promise there were still threats that came up one way or another; And he would be right there in his armored suit standing in harm's way until the day would come when he could stop the threats all together. That's where the real stress came from, and it was affecting Tony in more areas than just his personal life and relationship with Pepper. She could tell he was stressed too, even if he never admitted it. She was one of the people who made short work of the facade he put up. But where was he right now?
Doing Avenger stuff. At the New Avenger's facility in upstate New York, upgrading some software and integrating Friday into the matrix. Not because anyone had asked him to, or because it needed to be done. But because of Tony's own obsession with his work as Iron Man. Because if Friday was synchronized with the computer at the Avenger facility, Tony could be more aware of what was going on with the Avengers and be there to help when they needed it. He said it was so he didn't have to keep such close tabs on them, but the truth of the matter was that he was actually using Friday so he could show up as soon as a whiff of trouble appeared. "How's that look?" Tony asked, waiting to let Friday integrate herself into the computer system.
"I've been fully integrated boss... Assimilating all of J.A.R.V.I.S' command prompts and information now." She replied. "I now run as much of the company as J.A.R.V.I.S used to; including keeping tabs on things round the facility boss." She added after a few moments of the coding and uploading.
"That's my girl Friday." Tony said, closing the screen down as he put his interface back into his pocket. Now to explain where he had been to Pepper...
