Rocket Raccoon
"Ain't no thing like me 'cept me"
“This isn't my first rodeo, Mr. Stark.”
Name: Carnelian
Age: 29
How'd you find us? Followed an ad on my own board.
RP experience: I've honestly lost track
“Who are these people?”
Full Name: Rocket Raccoon
Nicknames: Ranger Rick
Alias: Subject 89P13
Age: Unknown
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Race: Genetically-altered Raccoon
Occupation: Mercenary
Class: Hero
Play-By: N/A
“We have left humanity behind...”
Any special talents?: N/A
Superpowers: None
Other Abilities: On the same level of intelligence as a human and having gained the ability to speak thanks to all the experiments and genetic tampering that he was put through, Rocket has become a skilled mechanic with a knack for making bombs and hacking computers. He also has a good amount of knowledge on how to use guns, blasters and rocket-launchers. As an expert marksman, these are his weapons of choice and the bigger the better, he is also a good pilot and even had his own ship; The Rack and Ruin.
Due to his small size, he prefers to use cunning and strategy over pure physical force yet he's no slouch in hand to hand combat either thanks to his agility. He is a good strategist who can come up with a plan using his current surroundings in next to no time or always seems to have one even if they don't work out for whatever reason (like the time Groot tried to help his friend and a couple of new allies with busting out of the Kyln). Rocket is also a good tracker thanks to his senses of smell, hearing and sight which includes mild night-vision.
Anything else we should know?: Like the rest of his kind, he has more sensitive hands than most other beings and the downside to this is any injuries or large enough cuts end up causing him pain. His cybernetic skeleton means he is a little vulnerable to possible EMP bursts and even with it, he isn't also exceptionally strong, possessing only average strength (which puts him at the same level as a non-powered yet full-grown human male). His size can work against him as he's smaller than most others and could be restrained by one or more such beings.
“That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry.”
Personality: He can and will come across as abrasive with a twisted and sarcastic sense of humor, a quick temper and a vicious streak due to the feral side of his nature if the right buttons are pushed. This attitude is a result of the way his life went and he will even come across as gruff and rude even to his friends. Since the meeting on board Yondu's ship and the battle on Xandar, he is slowly realizing he doesn't have to be such a defensive jerk 24/7. This means that he can choose to do the right thing even if proving to not be entirely selfless and can still be a little greedy.
With Rocket, trust has to earned big-time yet once he trusts someone, he can prove overly loyal in his own way. Losing a friend in any way could end up breaking him in spirit as he can't handle abandonment due to his complex PTSD (which means he has the destructive habit of alcohol misuse). He also suffers from a fear-based anger of medical centers and laboratories, triggering both panic attacks and his defensive rudeness. Exposure to such places or conversations about cybernetic and surgical research end up with him hitting the drinks, involuntarily experiencing nightmares and to a less extent, flashbacks.
The raccoon is also somewhat proud of his uniqueness but his past on Halfworld has given him self-loathing issues (which leads to self-doubt) especially if he is called names such as vermin, pet or rodent and he will react in a hostile manner to such slurs especially if he is drunk. And when he does end up losing his temper in this manner, he won't think twice about trying to attack a bigger person. Yet this is easily turned around as he can also be emotionally pushed into seriously doubting his own self-worth to his friends, labeling himself a monster and a freak over what was done to him.
“Cause I'm with you to the end of the line.”
Family: The Guardians of the Galaxy (as his raccoon family is dead)
History: One of several animals originating from the backwater planet known as Terra, Rocket or Subject 89P13 as the inhabitants of Halfworld called him was enhanced to the point of being transformed into a more humanoid and sentient life-form. They didn't stop there and continued to perform painful experiments on him for the next few months. Becoming sick of this living nightmare, Rocket and one other test subject, a now anthropomorphic female otter escaped from the laboratory. In a fit of rage, Rocket also destroyed the place on discovering that he was capable of tinkering with mechanical things including throwing together a bomb.
Fleeing the planet on a stolen ship, both anthropomorphic mammals eventually parted ways though it was on good terms and they would keep their friendship going, sometimes teaming up even after Rocket found his partner. Following this parting of the ways, he would meet and befriend a tree-like alien simply known as Groot and the two would end up becoming partners, and eventually best friends.
Adopting a career as bounty hunters and mercenaries, the duo would find themselves randomly hunting for targets in Xandar's capital city and pinpointed a man called Peter Quill who happened to have had a price put on his head by the Ravagers. As they attempted to capture him, a green-skinned woman (the adopted daughter of Thanos or a well-known yet powerful tyrant) was targeting Quill herself and all four ended up getting into a fight. This resulted in the local law enforcement or the Nova Corps arresting all the brawlers and sending them to the prison called the Kyln.
At the prison, the bounty hunters got the point they were not to be messed with across to the rest of the prisoners while the woman's or Gamora's reputation preceded her yet Quill was able to appeal to Rocket's greedy side. Making an escape plan, the raccoon started to outline it to the others but Groot's attempt to help meant they had to seriously step up their escape plan. The escape proved successful but the quartet found themselves going from four to five as another prisoner called Drax joined them as he wanted to avenge the deaths of his wife and child by killing their murderer, Ronan.
Heading for Knowhere as Gamora had set up a buyer for the orb that had been the reason behind her attacking Quill, the escaped prisoners soon made contact with the buyer; a being called the Collector after a drunken outburst from Rocket as he revealed the most painful part of his past. The artifact was then revealed to be an Infinity Stone, a powerful item dating back to the time of the Big Bang but the Collector's slave girl purposely activated the stone and triggered a large explosion.
As the group's opinions on what to do next differed, they found their debate cut short as both the Ravagers, and thanks to Drax making contact with him, Ronan the Accuser arrived. Quill, Gamora and Rocket tried to fight back but in the attempt the other two were rescued by the Ravagers before dying out in space. Rocket returned to the mining colony and vented his frustration at Drax, the larger alien knowing that he had messed up and decided to help put things right.
Reluctantly deciding to help Groot and Drax rescue their possible new friends, Rocket and the others attacked the Ravagers' ship to learn that Peter and Gamora were alright and Quill had arranged a truce. Holding a small private meeting, the group decided to step up and stop Ronan's desire to avenge his father, grandfather and great-grandfather by using the Infinity Stone to destroy all life on Xandar.
During the final battle, Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Groot managed to get aboard Ronan's ship after Rocket and some of the Ravagers had blown a hole in the side. He would remain outside to help with the Ravagers with the aerial defense of Xandar's capital city, an action which cost a lot of the Nova Corp pilots their lives after they arrived to provide assistance with defending the city.
Pushed into action, Rocket would fly the ship he was in right into Ronan's command chamber; that combined with damage from a blast of the Infinity Stone, meant that the Kree ship suffered heavy damage and started to fall from the sky. He would wake up to find Groot preparing to save them by sacrificing himself and tried to understand why even as the Dark Aster crashed into the evacuated city. Immediately afterwards, they would find that Ronan had also survived the crash-landing and easily defected the raccoon's revenge-driven attack. As Quill distracted him, Rocket located and fixed the weapon that had been used in the previous attempt to kill the Kree zealot and they blasted his warhammer instead. As the Infinity Stone was freed from the weapon, Peter dove in to snatch it first and the other Guardians moved to help him control then channel its energy and kill Ronan.
Rocket would find himself mourning Groot's loss to be comforted by Drax and the newly formed team would be pardoned by the Nova Corps and given a new ship. As the reborn Groot stirred, the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' took off, leaving Xandar behind for now.
“Dance-off, bro. Me and you.”
Custom Title: Speak softly and carry a big gun
RP Sample: Folding his arms over his chest, the smaller Guardian nodded. He had been getting familiar with the computer systems of the second version of the Milano after the Nova Corps had rebuilt it so fixing the mapping mechanism should be a walk in the park and he nodded, shooting a mildly annoyed glare at the Xandarian mechanic.
"Well then step away and let me see what glitches are in the ship's mainframe. Let me do my job in other words," and Rocket moved to the exposed holo-computer. Pausing to glance over his shoulder, he frowned then pried the front panel of the computer off. Flipping onto his back, he wriggled inside the computer and huffed thoughtfully "I may need a few tools over here."
By now, Rocket had his upper body buried in the internals of the computer console and his legs protruding from out of the open panel. The raccoon's tail flicked back and forth idly then one foot twitched as he hummed "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," while he studied the mess of wires and parts, his small sensitive hands carefully feeling for loose wires.
The smaller Guardian scowled. This was great as these wires didn't come loose easily, welding them back firmly into place was delicate work as well. His ears twitched as the muted thump of something being placed by the main console, probably a tool-kit.
When the Skrulls managed to board them during that rescue mission a month ago, one of them had made into this console as the holo-generator wiring got been pulled loose. Rocket frowned, annoyance creeping into his voice as he called to the mechanic a few seconds later, "Goin' to need the electro-welder and a hyper-spanner."
Getting no answer, the smaller Guardian briefly slid out of the holo-computer to grab the tools himself then got to work. Locating each loose wire and holding it in place with the hyper-spanner, he welded it back into the system.
